The 2020 Open Championship – why it was a no-show

It is difficult to imagine a year of golf without crowning the “Champion Golfer of the Year.” A year without the Open Championship is simply unfulfilling. It leaves a hole. But in the year of Covid, it was unavoidable. But why? Even the two-year Spanish Flu pandemic 100 years ago failed to halt the proceedings. WWII did, but that’s hardly surprising. So why did the 2020 Open Championship and its organizers stop the show? It’s a good question and one the editors at Golf Digest sent writer John Huggan to explore.
